M, #I56, b. 1745, d. 23 April 1818

Family

Marriage 1 : Mary MORRISON m. 27 October 1771 Antrim, Northern Ireland, b. 1749, d. 25 May 1830

  1. Robert W. JACKSON, b. 26 July 1790, d. 07 September 1830

Notes:

Narrative: WILLIAM LAFAYETTE THOMASSON, the son of Passins Alvis and Elizabeth Gordon (Jackson) Thomasson, was born 9 October 1844 near Filbert, York County, South Carolina. The father, Passins, was the son of James & Charlotte (Cozart) Thomasson who left the Granville & Persons County area of North Carolina & settled in York County, SC about 1810. The immigrant Thomasson ancestor was Thomas Thomasson who left London, England in 1667 and settled in Virginia. Thomas' father was George Thomasson a noted book publisher from London. William Lafayette Thomasson's mother Elizabeth Gordon Jackson was the daughter of David & Elizabeth (Gordon) Jackson, who were born and raised near Bethel, York County, SC. According to family tradition, William's maternal grandfather, David Jackson Jr, who was the son of Scotch-Irish immigrants David & Mary (Morrison) Jackson of County Antrim, Ireland, was a cousin of President Andrew Jackson, whose parents also came from County Antrim, Northern Ireland & settled in the same area of South Carolina. Young Andrew also fought in the same battles of the Revolutionary War, Hanging Rock & Sumpters Defeat, etc as did David Jackson Sr. After the war, young Andrew attended school in Bethel, York County SC, which was very near the David Jackson place.

Posted by: Glynnes Lanthier Date: July 26, 2001 at 11:40:28 In Reply to: Louisiana Lyon(s) by Barbara Lyons Larkin:

I am one of those descendants. Although I have to say, I am a bit confused about the whole Louisiana thing. Josiah M Lyon(s) and wife Nancy were living in Heard County, Georgia in 1840, at which time the census shows them with 7 children, 4 boys and 3 girls. Josiah M Lyons was a founding member of the Chattahoochee Masonic Lodge #61 in 1847 in Franklin (again, Heard Co., GA) and served as Treasurer there.

On the 1850 Census, Heard Co., GA, you can find the following: J.M. Lyon age 53, Wagoner; Nancy, age 49; Young, age 17; Aramenta, age 14; Josiah, age 12; Nancy, age 10; Henry, age 8; Francis M, age 6. Also on the 1850 Heard Co. census is Josiah's son, my ggg-grandfather, J.T. "Tom" Lyon(s), age 23, wife Elizabeth (Johnson/Johnston), age 18, and son Andrew J, age 1.

In the 1850s, J.T. and Elizabeth moved to Texas, along with two of Elizabeth's brothers, and they raised livestock. So is this when everyone else went to Louisiana? I sure would like to know about this.
