(Notation from Anthony Miller 2000 - updated by Robert Webb 2006 via e-mail) "He received a Spanish landgrant for 706 acres on 11 Nov 1778 at Selsertown, MS north of Natchez in the MS Territory. This land was deeded by Christopher and Margaret Guice to their son Jonathan Gice on the 1st day of Sept. 1784 in Deed Book A, Page 1, Davidson County TN (then NC.)" They returned to TN and then returned to MS near Sandy Creek now Franklin Co. In 1826 our MS Gilbert clan married into the Guice clan and our ancestors settled in LA. Three Guices in May 1784 each received from NC Territory, 640 acre Land Grants in Cumberland area of Davidson Co., MS -- now TN (They had signed or participated in the 1 May 1780 Cumberland Compact.) Original Manuscript adopted at Nashborough, May 1, 1780 ( Now Nashville, Tenn. )

Guices Creeke is located in the east end of Houston and Stewart Counties, its head waters are near the Dickson, Houston County Line, runs paraell with Yellow Creek west of it, across Houston County, north toward Cumberland City, into Stewart County and empties into Yellow Creek just before it empties into Cumberland River . It crosses Tennessee Highway 13 between Erin and Clarksville. There is a State Highway that runs from Highway 49 to Cumberland City (I believe it is SR47) that runs right beside Guices Creek into Stewart County then it turns Northwest and Guices Creeek turns North East to intersect with Yellow Creek in Montgomery County. /s/ Ira Ira Bell is a native of the Stewart-Houston-Humphrey-Henry-Benton County area, and is very familiar with the families, locations and the history of the area we research. Stampley Lodge #222 January 21, 1957 [[Earlier Masonic record for Jonathan Guice, Jr.]] Originally the Guices were French Huguenots, who because of religious persecution, fled to the German Palatinate. The first Guice who came to America was Hans (John) G. Guice, landing in Pennsylvania in 1737. His son, Christopher, and wife Margarette were both members of the Falkner Swamp Reform Church. Their son, Jonathan, who married Anne Stump and came to Mississippi about 1792, joined the Methodist Church in Claiborne County, later they moved to Franklin County. (Miss.)
